The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), considering the United Nations Millennium Declaration dated 8. September 2000, is supporting a research program for the „Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM)“ in regions with water shortages. The SMART-MOVE project "Sustainable Management of Available Water Resources with Innovative Technologies - Management Of Highly Variable Water Resources in semi-arid Regions" in the lower Jordan Valley is one of these projects. 26 different partners from Germany, Israel, Jordan and Palestine, belonging to Universities, research centers, water authorities and NGOs, companies, consultant and industry are working together in the consortium of this project.
